Terrible Teenagers - Essential Training For Your Adolescent Dog (6 - 18 months)
You got a puppy, you house trained him and he knows basic obedience such as sit, lie down and stay. His recall was brilliant and he never want too far away from you. Then something strange starts to happen when your furry buddy is about six months old. All of a sudden he doesn’t want to sit when asked, he pulls like crazy on the lead and nips at you in the house. He may be beginning to go to the bathroom in the house, he is beginning to chew on the furniture and his recall, what recall?? Everything and everyone on the park has become way more interesting! And where did all of this energy come from? Welcome to your puppy’s adolescent period otherwise known as his “Terrible Teens”.
· A relapse in basic obedience and the stuff you spent hours teaching them
· A new found stubbornness that feels like a child asking “why should I do this?”
· Recall becoming ‘optional’ and your dog running off more often and not coming back when called.
· Weighing up their options – “Do I want to go back to mum or play with this dog?”
· Over zealous towards other dogs
· Jumping up at people in the park
· Ignoring mum or dad but behaving beautifully for a complete stranger
· An increase or decrease in confidence
